Williams Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Tuesday, August 6th , 2024 A jubilant David Williams joined the postgame press conference at Reagor Dykes Stadium to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Abingdon Archers pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Moncton Mounties shortstop, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-7 hitting performance, which led to the 28-2 Mounties win. "He made it look easy," said Roberto Enriquez, manager of the Archers. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." David Williams doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, flied out in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 9th.
