McFarland Goes 5-for-6 Friday, July 3rd , 2026 A jubilant Bobby McFarland joined the postgame press conference at Nationals Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the San Antonio Griffins pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Jacksonville Nationals second baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 23-8 Nationals win. "He made it look easy," said James Beatty, manager of the Griffins. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Bobby McFarland singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Jorge Garcia in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Roberto Mendoza in the 4th, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 7th.
