Going Once! Twice! Gone Again! 3 HR for Gratta
Thursday, July 3rd , 2025
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Cincinnati Grounds, as Nick Gratta of the Buckeye Local Panthers unloaded three times against the Haviland Thrashers but was still bumped off, 28-9, by the Thrashers.
"We were lucky to win today," said Haviland skipper Bill Mason. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Buckeye Local first baseman had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 6.
Gratta spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Nick Gratta hit a solo-shot off Tony Magallon in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Tony Magallon in the 2nd, struck out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Ricky Vasquez in the 8th.
For the season, Gratta is batting .441 with 141 hits and 47 home runs. He has scored 115 times and batted in 105.
