Sultan of Swing: DeRise Goes Deep 3 Times
Tuesday, July 18th , 2023
Ft. Wayne Earthquakes first baseman Michel DeRise put on a dazzling display of power at Earthquakes Stadium against the Crystal Lake Killers. In the 15-3 Earthquakes victory, DeRise penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Crystal Lake manager Steve Warzecha said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 21-year-old had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," DeRise said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Michel DeRise walked in a run in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Carlos Corona in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Cristovão Dray in the 4th and hit a two-run home run off Jordan Carreon in the 6th.
So far this year, DeRise is batting .258 with 29 home runs.
