Callanan Sensational, 5-for-7 Saturday, May 11th , 2024 After a 5-hit effort to lead Ft. Wayne's 22-4 victory over the Tulsa Captains, catcher Rich Callanan told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day." "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Rookie League-level is really something special." The 20-year-old player earned his accolades at Earthquakes Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Captains. "His swing is getting there," said Earthquakes skipper Du-sung Moon, who spoke glowingly of Callanan after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Rich did that to perfection." Rich Callanan hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
