Sometimes it just isn't enough.
Sean Day had an outstanding day at Centerville Grounds for the Long Island Torpedoes, ripping three home runs. Nonetheless, the Torpedoes fell to the Terra Linda Chargers, 14-6.
Day had a feast at the plate, pounding everything thrown his way. The 21-year-old catcher banged out 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times and batted in 5 runs. Despite his sensational performance, the Torpedoes were not able to hold off the Chargers.
"Baseball is a funny game," Day said in the post-game interview, "You can't dwell on the reasons for the loss. I'm sure there will be days when I go 0-for-4 and we win. These things tend to even out."
Sean Day hit a two-run home run off Marco Zandbergen in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Marco Zandbergen in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J.D. Pirillo in the 11th.
This season, Day has banged out 17 hits in 73 at-bats for a .233 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .273 pace and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
