Shimizu Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Abingdon
Wednesday, May 7th , 2025
Shigemori Shimizu's 23-game hitting streak was snapped at Chupacabras Stadium. The 20-year-old Moncton Mounties shortstop failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats in the game against the Abingdon Archers, but Moncton came out the winner, 12-2.
"I don't think the streak was ever a big deal to Shigemori," Mounties manager Johnny Hoffman said after the game. "He ain't that type of guy. He just wants to help the team win ballgames."
Shimizu is hitting .315 this year with 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He has 35 hits in 111 at-bats, 9 walks and a .361 on-base percentage. Shimizu has played in 26 games.
