Ciervo Batters Vanderbilt for 5 Hits
Saturday, April 18th , 2020
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Jeff Ciervo today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Charles Hawkins Field and paced the Sun Devils to a 12-6 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Arizona State third baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. Jeff Ciervo singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Scott McDonald in the 6th, struck out in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
Ciervo is presently hitting at a .363 pace with 8 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has played in 32 games and scored 19 times.
