Ed Woodside Bashes Three over the Wall
Thursday, June 24th , 2021
Weedpatch Widowmakers center fielder Ed Woodside put on a dazzling display of power at Owls Ballpark against the Poplar Bluff Hillbillies. In the 6-4 Widowmakers victory, Woodside penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Poplar Bluff manager Adrian Mercado said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 21-year-old had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Woodside said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Ed Woodside singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Steve Cates in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Steve Cates in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Pat Eisen in the 9th.
So far this season, Woodside has put up a .246 batting average with 62 hits, 16 home runs and 34 RBIs.
