Sled Dogs Win at Home, 5-1
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Juneau Sled Dogs and Chuluota Imperials.
Juneau Sled Dogs starter Juan Madrid worked his magic, to help his team defeat the Chuluota Imperials, 5-1. Juneau has a record of 56-75, placing them 4th in the Southern Conference West Division.
The Imperials had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Sled Dogs going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old center fielder Kalle Hovinen came to the plate. Hovinen hit a grand slam home run on a full count fastball from Chuluota hurler Willie Mendez. It was Hovinen's 9th home run of the year.
"It was our day today," Hovinen told the Juneau Times. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
