Mejia Powers Killers to 14-13 Win
|
In the 14-13 Crystal Lake win over Riverside, the impact of Hector Mejia was substantial. Mejia went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Jorge Ortiz earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 4.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-3. The save went to Brian Kyzar, number 11 for him.
The Wolverines had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Killers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old third baseman Mike Unruh came to the plate. Unruh hit a 2-run double on a 1-0 curveball from Riverside hurler Sergio Rivera. It was Unruh's 6th double of the year.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Mejia told the Crystal Lake Today. "It's as simple as that."
Crystal Lake occupies first place in the Southern Conference West Division at 71-44.
