Chris Benedict knocked in 4 runs to help Ft. Wayne beat Crystal Lake, 13-2. The right fielder collected 1 single, 1 double, and 1 home run. Ft. Wayne raised its record to 92-21 with the win.

Though there was little doubt about Ft. Wayne's eventual triumph, shortstop Jose Valdez made a particularly significant contribution in the bottom of the third inning when he hit a run-scoring single off Dan Maxwell. Valdez went 3-5 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"I thought we played a nice game," Valdez told the Ft. Wayne Observer. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
