The Ft. Wayne Earthquakes downed the Buckeye Local Panthers, 7-0, at Cincinnati Grounds. Stellar pitching by Ken Phillips had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 4th in the SC in wins with 8, handcuffed his opponent all game. Phillips picked up the win for Ft. Wayne, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 8-0. The defeat makes Buckeye Local 55-56.

Ft. Wayne used a clutch at-bat from Jose Valdez to capture the win. The shortstop hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Earthquakes ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"I was able to change speeds effectively tonight," said Phillips.
