Killers Stay Hot With 3-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Crystal Lake Killers and the San Antonio Griffins, Ed Gonell, who is tied for 9th in the SC in quality starts with 4, proved to be the difference. The Crystal Lake right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Killers win. Gonell, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Brian Kyzar earned the save, his 25th.
Crystal Lake catcher Benedito Potier contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a slider to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 68th hit of the season and put the Killers ahead, 2-1.
"We had a good game plan," Gonell said, "and we were able to execute it."
The winning continues for Crystal Lake, with the latest triumph making it 9 straight.
