10 Straight Wins for Nationals
|
The Jacksonville Nationals and Chuluota Imperials played an entertaining game for Imperials Ballpark patrons.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Jacksonville Nationals and the Chuluota Imperials, 20-year old right-handed pitcher Hector Mendoza was the difference-maker. The Jacksonville right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Mendoza got the win, improving to 5-5. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Chris Kelley earned the save, his 14th, for the Nationals.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Eric Cannova? The Jacksonville left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Nationals on top, 2-0. For the game, Cannova had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"We busted our tails," said Chuluota manager Larry Voltaire. "But we came up short."
The Imperials, at 30-71, have lost 9 in a row.
