Konas Hits 2 home runs in Earthquakes Win
Jerry Konas was instrumental in his team's 9-8 triumph over the Jacksonville Nationals. The right fielder was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes. Ft. Wayne reliever Eddie O'Connor snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Enrique Ramirez shouldered the loss. Earning his 21st save of the year was Marcos Patino.

Rich Callanan came through with a big-time hit for Ft. Wayne. The pinch hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 9-8. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Callanan told the Ft. Wayne Observer. "It's as simple as that."

The first-place Earthquakes, at 81-18, lead the Southern Conference East Division by 17½ games.
