Earthquakes Topple Griffins, 9-2, as Valdez Shines
The Ft. Wayne Earthquakes extended their winning streak.

Getting a good performance from shortstop Jose Valdez, the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes defeated the San Antonio Griffins, 9-2. Valdez was 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 for the Earthquakes. Ft. Wayne pitcher Ken Phillips got the win, upping his record to 5-0. Sal Aguilar got the loss.

Ft. Wayne got a big at-bat from Oakland, California native Gary O'Connell, who in the top of the first hit a 2-run double. It was his 11th double of the season and put the Earthquakes ahead, 3-0.

Said losing manager James Beatty: "We need to play with more of an edge."

Ft. Wayne, having won 14 in a row, is now 69-16.
