Panthers Top Griffins to Even Record
|
San Antonio catcher Jonathan Deist had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Deist went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, even as Buckeye Local beat the Griffins, 6-5. Roberto Ahumada earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 4-0. Danny Lozado got credit for the save for Buckeye Local. It was his 1st of the year.
The Griffins had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Panthers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old first baseman Dan Bigham came to the plate. Bigham hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from San Antonio hurler Dennis DeLong. It was Bigham's 1st double of the year.
"It was our day today," Bigham told the Buckeye Local Daily. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The win makes Buckeye Local 34-34.
