Haviland Thrashers starter Rafael Cruz found his groove in his team's 5-3 win over the Juneau Sled Dogs. The winner was Cruz. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Manny Martinez. At 39-21, the Thrashers find themselves in second place in the Southern Conference East Division.

Haviland designated hitter Bryan Valenta landed a blow when he belted a solo home run in the bottom of the third. It was his 28th home run of the season. With it, the Thrashers took a 2-0 lead.

"Rafael had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Haviland manager .
