Loss Tarnishes Fine Effort by Durant
|
Fans watched the Haviland Thrashers and the Picture Rocks Raptors fight to the finish.
Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Justin Durant, the Picture Rocks Raptors lost to the Haviland Thrashers, 9-8. Durant went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 6 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Jim Unknown. The left-hander allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0.
Juan Oliva found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Picture Rocks hurler Jim Unknown, the 20-year-old left fielder drew a walk, driving in 1 run. His 7th walk of the season put the Thrashers on top, 5-4.
Haviland manager was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
