Nava Excels, But Wolverines Win
|
The Riverside Wolverines weathered an outstanding game by Corpus Christi designated hitter Michael Nava to topple the Texans, 9-7. Nava was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Riverside reliever Jerry Carmona picked up the win, while Jim Unknown took the loss for Corpus Christi. Antonino Sauli closed it out for Riverside, earning his 6th save.
Riverside used a clutch at-bat from Cherles Bezerra to capture the win. The shortstop hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Wolverines ahead, 7-5. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We maximized our offense today," said Riverside skipper Chris Rauch. "That makes everyone's life easier."
The Wolverines improved their record to 18-23 with the win over Corpus Christi.
