Ft. Wayne shortstop Troy Nelson was sensational. He was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Crystal Lake beat the Earthquakes, 10-9. Reliever Tony Becerra picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Ray LeCain took the loss. Ft. Wayne drops to 2-6.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Crystal Lake designated hitter Bill Hudson, facing Ramiro Garcia, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Killers the 10-9 win.

"The game of baseball will test you," said Josh Lewis, the Crystal Lake skipper. "This one tested us."
