When he got to Newport News, Bill Reyes was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the League Championship Series.

The 19-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the visiting Wichita Panthers, 4-0, in a remarkable performance at Wranglers Stadium. With the win, the Wranglers took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Jonathan Jaramillo came through for Newport News with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The catcher went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and collected 2 runs batted in.

Newport News manager Adam Tate praised his team's "energy."

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Panthers Park in Wichita.
