Almost There: Medford On Cusp of CS Triumph After 4-3 Win
|
The Medford Desperados got a strong game from starter Josh Poehlein, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Desperados took the 4-3 win over the Santa Ana Black Aces in Game 4 of the League Championship Series in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Poehlein. Poehlein threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, which gave the Desperados a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The Desperados were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 19-year old catcher Todd Gordon landed a big blow. He turned a 2-1 fastball from Rick Deyo into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Ballpark of Medford denizens into a frenzy and sent the Desperados home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Gordon said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Medford in Medford.
