The Newport News Wranglers defeated the Wichita Panthers, 5-4, in Sub League 2 action at Wranglers Stadium. Newport News pitcher Sergio Romero had a standout performance. Newport News is now 62-53, while Wichita is 59-56.

Newport News took a 5-4 lead on Curt Lirette's 20th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Lirette hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Wichita pitcher Chris Brown visibly frustrated.

"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Romero. "But I have better dreams after a win."
