It was not a good day at the plate for the Mt. Vernon Cyclones. They came up empty when it mattered against Sikeston Shamrocks right-hander Tom Donnelly, who scattered 5 hits across 9 innings and held the Cyclones scoreless.

"We had 5 hits so I know he wasn't completely untouchable, but he was close," Mt. Vernon manager Dan McClure said later.
