The Savannah Alpines bested the Ontario Sunrays by a score of 4-3, with shortstop Jim Young getting the main credit. On the day, Young was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Alpines. Steve Shewmaker earned the win for Savannah. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 10-4. Jonathan Chavez got credit for the save for Savannah. It was his 2nd of the year.
Savannah grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Young hit a 2-run home run off Marty Mitchell. His 7th home run of the season put the Alpines out in front, 4-2.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Young.
The Alpines now own a record of 57-53.
