Sunrays Lose By a Run at Newport News
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Newport News Wranglers and the Ontario Sunrays, Ivan Gonzalez was the X factor. The Newport News left-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Gonzalez, now 5-5, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Jonathan Aubry earned the save for Newport News, his 7th.
The Wranglers got a big at-bat from right fielder Sean Hardin. For the game, Hardin went 1 for 1 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Newport News a 2-1 lead.
"Tough loss," said Ontario manager Sam Story. "The kind that burns a little inside."
Newport News now sits at 57-64, while Ontario falls to 49-72.
