In a low-scoring affair between the Carson City Miners and the Ontario Sunrays, pitcher Victor Meza was the difference between victory and defeat. The Carson City right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Miners win. Carlos Flores closed out the game, earning his 7th save. The first-place Miners have a one-game lead in their division.

The Sunrays had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Miners going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old left fielder Jerry Konas came to the plate. Konas hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 splitter from Ontario hurler Chris Eklund. It was Konas's 11th double of the year.

"The old adage is true," said Konas. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
