Missions Drop 2-1 Decision
|
Montgomery wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Willie Gonzales, falling to the Mt. Vernon Cyclones, 2-1. Gonzales came in in relief and pitched to 28 batters for the losing team. The win belonged to Alexis Garcia in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Sherman Ayala took the loss for Montgomery. The Cyclones, at 61-54, sit in second place in the Sub League 2 East Division.
It could have been a different outcome for Mt. Vernon, had it not been for Jason King, the 20-year old second baseman . King contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Mt. Vernon up, 2-0.
"Runs were at a premium," said Mt. Vernon manager Tom Whiting.
