Newport News Upended, 7-1, by Santa Barbara
|
Behind the hitting of Doug Wagner, the Santa Barbara Super Troopers stopped the Newport News Wranglers, 7-1. Wagner went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 for the Super Troopers. Alan Buon, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 4-2. The triumph puts Santa Barbara at 64-25 for the season.
Santa Barbara won the game in part because of Roland Clement. The catcher ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Super Troopers ahead, 5-0. For the game, Clement had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
