Wranglers Take Tight Tangle
|
The Newport News Wranglers had to overcome a fine effort from Santa Barbara pitcher Mike Pistorio to win, 3-2, at Wranglers Stadium. Pistorio went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Newport News reliever Naohiro Goto got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Isaiah Timmons was tagged with the loss. Steve Gallagher earned his 6th save in 6 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Brian Collins came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Santa Barbara pitcher Isaiah Timmons, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Newport News on top, 3-2.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Collins said.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Wranglers.
