The Savannah Alpines faced a tenacious opponent in Santa Barbara pitcher Mike McManigle, but still scratched out a win at Car Ramrod Park by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. McManigle went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Savannah reliever Randy Walker picked up the win to move to 1-1. J.J. Mendenhall suffered the loss. Jeff Eddins earned the save for Savannah, his 21st.
Savannah used a timely hit from Keith Connelly to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Alpines ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Savannah manager Ryan Allen.
The Alpines improved their record to 49-61 by beating Santa Barbara.
