Shamrocks 3-0 Victors Over Mt. Vernon
|
The Sikeston Shamrocks downed the Mt. Vernon Cyclones, 3-0, at Shamrocks Park. Stellar pitching by Mickey Green had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the SL2 with a 1.27 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 6.2 innings, Green surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Tim Suttle collected save number 2.
Jayden Howard had a big solo home run for the Shamrocks in the bottom of the third inning. With Sikeston leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Rico Lopez and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Shamrocks on top, 2-0.
"We had a good game plan," Green said, "and we were able to execute it."
The second-place Shamrocks are now 53-23, the Cyclones 39-37.
