Cyclones Prevail, 4-2, Over Sikeston
|
Mt. Vernon pitcher Dara Qutaiba did his part in helping his team defeat the Sikeston Shamrocks, 4-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. In 5 innings, Qutaiba surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Jeff Reade got the save, the 6th for him this season.
The Cyclones had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 4-2, Mt. Vernon, with one out. Sikeston, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Russ Philip dug in at the plate, but on a 1-0 fastball, he popped out.
The Cyclones now have a record of 49-41.
