Panthers Turn Back Miners, 5-3
|
Wichita pitcher Edward Southey had a large part in his team beating the Carson City Miners, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jesse Soto earned the save for Wichita, his 3rd. Wichita, at 51-39, occupies second place in the Sub League 2 Central Division.
Mikkel Goldbaek, who is tied for 8th in the SL2 in doubles with 23, was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk for Wichita. In a tie game with one out in the top of the seventh, Goldbaek came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Panthers in front, 3-2.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Southey. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
