Newport News registered a win at Alpines Stadium by beating the Savannah Alpines, 5-2. Pitcher Ivan Gonzalez was one reason why the Wranglers triumphed. Jean Lebreton, now 2-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. The last-place Wranglers have won 5 straight games.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ian Schelling? The 21-year old left fielder Schelling stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 13th inning to put Newport News up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 6, including 1 double and 1 single.
