Wranglers center fielder Fernando Zavala left his imprint on his team's 10-3 win over the Mt. Vernon Cyclones. Zavala went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs for Newport News in the contest. Newport News is now 55-34. Mt. Vernon is 48-41.

Newport News third baseman Nick Bourg contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 24th hit of the season and put the Wranglers ahead, 3-0.

"Their at-bats were really impressive against us," said losing manager Tom Whiting.
