Missions Keep Streak Alive with Late Rally

Montgomery and Savannah played a hard-fought contest.
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Montgomery Missions and the Savannah Alpines. Montgomery won it, 3-1. Montgomery starter Leonardo Vazquez was in command. Vazquez got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run.
Montgomery needed the clutch hitting of Bill Matthews to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Missions on top, 3-0. For the game, Matthews had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We have a lot of confidence in Leonardo," said Montgomery manager Hoa Nguyen-Dinh.
The 5th-place Missions have won 4 in a row.
