Jose Escobedo, who is tied for 8th in the SL2 with a 7.0 K/9 rate, imposed his will on the Wranglers from the get-go. Relying mainly on his slider, the right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 Montgomery triumph. Montgomery reliever Javier Perez was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-0. Bobby Hembise took the loss for Newport News. The Missions raised their record to 33-50.

Montgomery went in front, 1-0, on Ben Riffe's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Riffe hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Newport News pitcher Bobby Hembise visibly perturbed.

"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Riffe.
