Wranglers Win Squeaker, 5-4, Over Alpines
|
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Jody Clark, the Savannah Alpines lost to the Newport News Wranglers, 5-4. Clark was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2. The Wranglers now have a record of 48-30 with the win over Savannah.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Davey Stoltzfoos came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Savannah pitcher Leonardo Ayala, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Newport News on top, 5-4.
"This is a very good team," said Stoltzfoos. "We have the chance to do something special."
