Cyclones Sneak By Alpines, 4-3

The Mt. Vernon Cyclones had to overcome a fine effort from Savannah pitcher Dave Golash to win, 4-3, at Alpines Stadium. Golash went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Mt. Vernon reliever Edgar Ambrosio was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-2. Tim Lipscomb took the loss for Savannah. Mt. Vernon is in second place in the Sub League 2 East Division with a record of 40-33.
Mt. Vernon used the timely hitting of Joe Collins to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cyclones on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Mt. Vernon manager Tom Whiting commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
