Newport News Keeps Spiraling Downward
Shamrocks Park was the site of a competitive game between the Newport News Wranglers and Sikeston Shamrocks.

Thanks in large part to third baseman Matt Duval, the Sikeston Shamrocks beat the Newport News Wranglers, 5-3. Duval was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win was credited to 21-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Wimberley in relief. His record improves to 2-2. J.D. Hennis took the loss.

Russ Philip, who is rated as the 31st best prospect by BNN, helped out the Sikeston cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch. For the game, the second baseman drew 1 walk.

"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Chris Rice told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."

The misery never ends for the Wranglers, who've lost 10 in a row.
