6-2 Loss Extends Newport News Skid
The Mt. Vernon Cyclones defeated the Newport News Wranglers, 6-2, in Sub League 2 action at Wranglers Stadium. Mt. Vernon pitcher Lorenzo Guerra had a standout performance. Guerra, now 6-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Newport News is in the throes of a long losing streak, which is now 9 games.

Mt. Vernon used a big swing from Nate Johnson to get the win. The catcher walloped a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Cyclones up, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it changed the outcome.
