The Sikeston Shamrocks rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Steve Pitt to a win, beating the Carson City Miners, 3-1, at Miners Ballpark. Daniel Hernandez, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 17th save. The Shamrocks now have a record of 36-29 with the win over Carson City.
Matt Duval provided a timely hit. The Sikeston shortstop delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Shamrocks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Sikeston manager William Antczak. "That's what Steve is right now."
