Fighting Knights Win Squeaker, 5-4, Over Wranglers
|
The Niskayuna Fighting Knights had to overcome a fine effort from Newport News pitcher Alex Gonzales to win, 5-4, at Fighting Knights Field. Gonzales went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Juan Esquibel picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-2. Seung-kab Kym, who is tied for 2nd in the SL2 in holds with 5, was tagged with the loss. After today's action, Niskayuna sits at 22-35; Newport News slips to 34-23.
The decisive blow was delivered by Danny Solis in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 19-year old right-handed pitcher Seung-kab Kym to win the game for Niskayuna. The home crowd went nuts.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Solis.
