Cyclones Defeat Wranglers, 4-3
|
The Mt. Vernon Cyclones battled the Newport News Wranglers into extra innings before the outcome was decided. The Cyclones won it, finally, 4-3, in 10 innings. In the game, Mt. Vernon first baseman Gwang-oo Shroyer went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Carlos Brenes claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. His record stands at 2-1. The Cyclones improved their record to 30-25 by beating Newport News.
Had Shroyer not come through in the top of the tenth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Shroyer hit a run-scoring single. The Cyclones took the lead, 4-3, and never looked back.
"Ah," said Shroyer in a jubilant clubhouse, "the sweet smell of victory!."
