The Montgomery Missions weathered a fine game by Mt. Vernon center fielder Eddie Bertetto to upend the Cyclones, 5-4, at Missions Grove. Bertetto was 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jerry Carmona earned the save, his 11th, for the Missions. Montgomery now has a record of 32-17 with the win.

Montgomery took a 5-4 lead on Paul Adam's 10th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Adam hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Mt. Vernon pitcher Steve Cripple visibly frustrated.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Mt. Vernon manager Tom Whiting. "But we decided not to take it."
