Alpines Popped by Missions, 6-4

The Montgomery Missions topped the Savannah Alpines, 6-4, in Sub League 2 action at Missions Grove. The standout performance belonged to Montgomery pitcher and Kernersville, North Carolina, native Jeff O'Donovan. O'Donovan, now 3-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Jerry Carmona closed it out for Montgomery, earning his 9th save.
The Alpines had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Missions going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old left fielder Paul Marks came to the plate. Marks hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 cutter from Savannah hurler Casey Thill. It was Marks's 4th double of the year.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Marks.
Montgomery leads the Sub League 2 East Division by 3 games.
