Newport News turned a good effort from starter Jean Lebreton into a win over the Mt. Vernon Cyclones at Mt. Vernon Grounds. The final score was 5-2. J.D. Hennis sewed up the save, his 5th. The Wranglers sport a record of 12-19.

Newport News used a well-timed hit by Bob Sallee to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Wranglers ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"I had pretty good command out there," said Lebreton.
